History Happened HereGeneral consensus is that there are many more signs reading “George Washington Slept Here” than there were actual days in our first President’s life. Nonetheless, rumor has it that the “Father of our Country” may actually have pulled up the covers on occasion at the Warner home in Ridgley’s Delight. The story goes that Washington often visited the Warner home on his way between Philadelphia and Mt. Vernon. The daughter of the house, Henrietta, is said to have helped her father entertain Washington while she sat spinning at her wheel. So, while we can’t take credit for Washington’s triumph over the British, we can be confident that a good night’s sleep at his friends’ house in Ridgley’s Delight certainly didn’t do him any harm.
